Thousands of offline websites

I couldn't find anywhere else to put this, so here we go.

I have a few websites with GoDaddy hosting. Since friday around 5-5:30pm, til around 1am, all the websites go offline. I have rang GoDaddy about this and on Friday, they hadn't a clue about it. Then last night, they tell me there is a damaged cable between New York and Dublin and european servers are acting up. Checking online it seems to be a massive issue and is ongoing, with no lead time to a full fix.

Anyone else aware of this? It's becoming a right headache and although it's supposedly no GoDaddys fault, I am seriously considering the hassle of moving the sites to a local host, which tbh, is a big hassle I would rather avoid.

    Usually

PPC1 is down at the mo:
PPC-1 suffered a major fault on 5 February, taking down the entire cable system
That's f'cking the auzzies until its repaired in the coming weeks.

Haven't heard about another incident. There's no direct cable Dub-NY, only Dub-MA. If there's a dead link your should who's network your traffic is dying in(L3, Cogent, Telia, CW).

They shut them sites down at night to clean out the cookies.

Apparently its a big clean up operation, usually carried out by eastern Europeans, and the cookies get recycled into dog biscuits.

Your dodgy sites are fine, don't worry.

Even for an after hours response, your post sucks. I'm ashamed to be from the same area as you. You must have gone to the grange.

Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it? You lose your keys - it's aliens. A picture falls off the wall - it's aliens. That time we used up a whole bog roll in a day, you thought that was aliens as well!

That last one was that curry you made the night before.

We were advised to steer clear of Go Daddy hosting.
Are you sure it's a cable problem?

Who is we? I have been with GoDaddy since 2008 with no issues until now. I know plenty of people have a bone to pick with them, but I have been lucky and they are usually very helpful.

I cant be sure, but I know hostgator are also having major downtime issues the past couple of days.

I initiated a data centre migration from the euro servers to the north american servers an hour ago. It seems to have resolved the problem. Sites are back up, but will be keeping an eye on them.

I blame Paul Murphy. Not happy with intimidating families using public transport, he's brought down your internet.

PM me a couple of your sites and I'll see if theres an alternative route.

Thanks for the offer, but the migration seems to have solved the issue. If it happens again, i'll be sure to ask though.

I only wish I had done this on Friday. We launched a fast food website with an online ordering system, connected to a wifi printer. It was bad timing for it to be offline, over a busy weekend.

    Does this happen EVERY Friday?

If so I'd say it's someone in their offices unplugging a server and plugging in the Drinks Machine that they use for Casual Friday Cocktails BABY!

    Get with the program dudes!

It depends where your userbase is for these sites of yours.

The best place for your sites are to place them in servers local to your userbase.

Well, they are local businesses, targeting Local consumers. I suppose I should look into local hosting. I'm just used to using godaddy and changing to a different provider, for me, would be a big hassle. I know what i have with them and to switch, I might end up getting stung with unforeseen charges. For example; register365 is who I use for domains. But for emails, they only give you one and you have to pay €20 per year per account for a pop3 account to allow you to receive and send emails from your phone/pad/outlook. Customer care is also not 24/7 with any irish histing orovider I know of (register 365 are uk).

In the context above? I'm neither looking for recommendations, nor condemning any service, merely stating where I am and what I was musing.
