Hi looking for advice for my next exam....

Recent passed f7 f8 and p3 and awaiting results of p1. All done self study and for the P exams only used free online notes. Think I will continue to do them without going to lectures... for the moment.

So the question is which p options should I choose.... and should I take the irish version of p2.

Don't think tax p6 is an option for me. So would people recommend p4 p5 or p7 and what are the main difference between 4 and 5.

    Thanks folks

Unless you want an Audit Cert then do not do the Irish varient of P2. Extra work for nothing. Do the international one.

I recently qualified and didn't sit a single lecture and just used Kaplan text books so it's well doable (not sure the free online notes on OpenTuition would be enough though to be honest).

I sat P4 and P5. They were no brainers for me as I despise audit and am no good at it anyway. I hadn't done tax in years (had a long break between doing CAP1 and CAP2 and changing over to ACCA) so wasn't confident taking it on, and I have no interest in working in practice ever again. I found P4 and P5 interesting subjects (if there wasn't an exam hanging over me then I'd have found them very interesting indeed). They are marked very hard though. P5 is mainly theory and appears easy but the examiner crucifies you. Pass rate of 29-30% says it all. P4 is more calculation based, and is very difficult to get your head around. I failed the first time, but learned from my mistakes and sailed through it second time round. Practice plenty of the calculation questions, rather than just looking at the solution. That cost me first time around to be honest. That approach worked for most exams but it doesn't work for P2 and P5.

P5 was the only one I failed, but I'd still recommend it. Depends what areas interest you and whether you want to work in industry or practice after.

I'd recommend p5, there are a large amount of similarities with p3. Agree with the above on p2, do the international. Be careful with p2, there's a lot of material to cover and the examiner likes to ask questions from many aspects of the syllabus so leave nothing out. Would also recommend P4, although it is quite technical & calculations based. I found open tuition to be very helpful

P4 is tough dont use Independent colleges for it anyway

I'm currently doing P2 just by itself. So after that I just have the other 2 Ps and the 2 options.

Would it be inadvisable to take P3 and P5 in the same sitting, as I hear that P5 is best only to start once you've completed P3 ?

I did P5 & p3 in the same sitting and would recommend it. There is a significant amount of overlap

In that case (assuming I pass first time of course) I'd be left with p1 and p6 for the final sitting.

Out of the 4 options I've decided I'm definitely not taking P7, I don't have much interest in auditing, and as for P4, I think I had enough with the foreign currency topics of F9, to be honest. Did well enough with F6 so I'll stick with more tax.
