Travel to Belarus

So I'm going to be in Vilnius this summer and I was hoping to visit Minsk for a day or two, literally just to check another country off on my list of places visited. Was just wondering if anyone has travelled there recently and knows how to get a visa, and how much it costs? All the info online is quite difficult to follow.

I did this some years ago, so things might have changed. I went to a travel agent in Vilnius who sorted the visa and then the train was 4 or 5 hours to Minsk. I then flew from Minsk to Riga. Interesting experience, Minsk is somewhat 1980s USSR in ambience in a way that Vilnius (or no place west of Yekaterinburg is not), but there isn't a huge amount to see there.

Yeah, to be honest I'm not expecting to see much, literally just visit for the sake of visiting the country. What was the cost of the visa if you remember?

I don't remember, but it is stamped in my old passport as €57 in 2007. I also had to pay some insurance and something to the agent so it was €70+ in all.
The train wasn't expensive as I recall, but what exactly I couldn't say.

I'm just waiting for my visa back from Belarus embassy in London, hoping all goes smoothly, been a while since I've applied that way. Last time I got a visa in Vilnius but seemed to take all morning, also I think one day they're closed. Do you know anybody there? I always put one of my friends down as giving invitation, but not sure how it works otherwise, you get a tourist invitation maybe? Even if you're only going fit 1/2 days I don't think you can get a transit visa if you're arriving and leaving from same place.
