Scratch repair without needing a re-spray?

    Hi,

My Gf was driving her 2011 new model black Ford Focus and amazingly the side of a brick wall came out and scraped the front passenger wing.

It looks worse than it is I hope, it is a deep scratch but there's no denting on the wing.

Is it possible to repair this scratch without having to re-spray the entire wing?

I heard somewhere that by lightly sanding and smoothing the scratch and then layer by layer applying touch up paint with a needle has a great result?

Or any company that is recommended and approx cost to repair?

    Thanks in advance

The only way to fix that properly is to paint it.

Touching it up will just be a botch job and look terrible.

Touch-up may look fine for very short scratches and stone chips. On that scratch it will be very noticeable.

Look on the bright side. No dent means all it needs is re-spraying.

It'll need a professional paint repair, anything else will look terrible. Many paint shops do localised "smart" repairs for jobs as small as this so it wouldn't be as costly as you might think. From prior experience I'd guesstimate that will cost you approx €250.

If you happen to be in the Galway area I'd have a good recommendation for where to bring it.

Johnny from Car Cosmetix just replied now and it'll cost 180 euro. Think that's okay.

Beware of who you use. Have a search here on boards for other experiences of this shop. I remember some recent comments.

I used Ace Body Repairs in Bray for a similar job on my car after a previous place botched the colour match.
Outcome was as good as new.

Some of the dealers use them as well.
Send them some pictures for a quote.

There are branches in other locations but this is the one I have had experience of.

Try Dent Pro. New enough business in Dublin but I've heard their radio ads which mention some new fill & spray option. I used them for removal of dents before and found them pretty good. www.dentpro.ie

    Check their work before choosing.

I've used this crowd and wouldn't recommend or use again.

    Plus one on that.

They used to do good work a long time ago, but standards have absolutely plummeted.

Agree. I was on the cusp of getting some welding carried out by them last year (small area of corrosion on bodywork), until it was suggested to me that they could go the cheapy route and sand the area down (lol) and respray the small section. Needless to say, I looked elsewhere.
