Importing car when moving from the north to the south

    Hi guys,

I am moving from the north to south to work permanently. I am from the north, I have lived in the north my whole life and I have owned my current car 9 months now. I am confused as to how I prove this in order to be exempt from VRT.
I have read proof includes mortgage agreements, utility banks, etc but I have lived with my parents until this point so I do not have any of these. Also I have not worked in the north so I am not sure what proof I can give.
I do have the tax book, car insurance letters and banks statements with proof of address. Is that enough? I drive a 05 astra if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

As to your question, I'm not sure if such an exemption exists tbh. someone will have the answer.

If you are from the North and have attended education there, and have never worked anywhere, there is no question about your normal residence, whatever bullcrap they say they need. As previous threads have shown it depends on who you meet, but with a car worth little in any case perhaps they won't overly bother you about paperwork.

Bank and car insurance letters were enough for me when I moved over in 2007. They wanted proof you and car was at same address for over 6 months prior. V5 says when you bought car bank bits say you lived together lol

I can't say for certain if its enough now though, as it different system in place.
