    Hi all

I have a htc m8 phone and lately when I leave my phone for an hour or so then pick it up to use it, the stupid thing either redirects me to play store to dl candy crush or opens the Web browser to congratulations you have won an iPhone or a advertisement site...

It's head wrecking and I would appreciate your help

I've had a couple friend mention this to me the other day about their phones. Try downloading an adware app from the store and doing a scan. The only other option is to root the phone and install adaway

Thanks for your reply, is it hard to root a phone?

If its a message in the notification bar then long press it and select show app.
That'll tell you what app is responsible for showing the ads.. and then uninstall it.

If you are on lollipop or higher you dont even have to uninstall the app, theres an option to block notifications from that particular app.

    Nice option.
Although if it were me I'd rather uninstall it and look at a different app

Funny you should metion that. I've had simiair issue since Friday I think where browser randomly redirecting or firing popup. Couldn't think of any new app installed that would be causing it (Elephone P6000 Pro)

same question to you, does it happen on network data and wifi or just when on wifi?

Sorry to bump this but was wondering did anyone have any joy getting this sorted out?

I downloaded Airpush Detector and it detected 2 apps - Socialife (I think it came with the phone) and also The Journal app. I've deleted both of them, but I'm still getting annoying pop-ups 3 or 4 times a day. I've heard that this can be an issue with Chrome, which is the stock browser on my phone, but I can't uninstall it.

    Has anyone any advice?

What phone have you got? I'd recommend rooting your phone and installing adaway. Does it happen on WiFi and mobile data or just mobile data?

It's a Sony Xperia z5. I get them both on WiFi and mobile data.

I'd like to avoid rooting if possible because from what I've read, rooting this phone is fiddly and you can lose some features.

Could try run stubborn trojan killer app. Without root I think the only option then is to factory reset. Just back everything up first. Theres an app for everything!
