Changing brake calipers

I have no name brake calipers on my road bike and am finding them pretty crap. I've changed the pads for better ones which has helped a bit but it still feels like an age between pulling the brakes and them biting on the rim.

I'm going to upgrade the calipers to 105s but the rest of the group set is 9 speed Sora. Is there any compatibility issue or does it not matter?

    Shouldn't be any issues.

If your changing your calipers, I'd suggest you change your brake cables also. Soft/spongy brakes are usually caused by the cables and not the calipers.

New levers, cables, calipers and handlebar tape...that should sort it! ( there...that better? )

Sounds like a new bike is needed.

Check the compatibly chart here http://productinfo.shimano.com/#/archive
Make sure the levers match the brakes

Thanks Ted. If I read the compatibility chart correctly then 105s should be ok

    New bike...

My wife is German and does not give in easily. Negotiations are protracted. In the meantime I got permission for new calipers on grounds of health and safety.

In that case you need new wheels because the new calipers are so good they're wearing down the rims
