Cycle Routes in Dublin

    Hello,
    I work in Dublin city centre during the week and travel down the country at weekends so I clock up the milege on country roads with no traffic lights etc..etc...
    What routes do cyclists take in Dublin - when they want to get a good 50/60km cycle in...I live in Kilmainham. I am a member of my local cycle club at home..is there a club that goes out mid week in Dublin?
    Where would ye suggest?

    I live in killiney and work in town, often I'll go home over the mountains and it'll give me a good spin, you could do rathfarnham , kilternan, enniskerry, glencree rathfarnham and back home.

    Alternatively do a lap of howth and back home

    If you live in Kilmainham then you have open country surprisingly close at hand. The Chapelizod road (or go through the Phoenix Park if you like) will lead you out by the Strawberry Beds road towards Lucan, which is effectively the countryside and the gateway to Dunboyne etc., and a nice road to ride on. Just be sure to light up and bring a decent front light as it is not a well lit road.

    I've done two 20km loops of the phoenix park, you would be surprised how much climbing you can get done in there. It's not huge like but over the 40km was close to 400m. When the mornings are brighter I'll start back up the mid week morning sessions in the park, no lights and little traffic on many of the roads so it's perfect for a fast blast around.

    Clontarf CC goes out mid week on a Thursday, about 7pm, i think it's just a loop around Howth head. They meet in Clontarf, so would be about a 9/10km cycle for you to get there.
