I see that Cathal Murray has Tweeted to the effect that he finishes presenting Weekend on One this weekend. Wonder what's next for Cathal?
    Best of luck to him.

This Saturday&Sunday's Weekend on One @RTERadio1 will be my last. Could I request a RT? (you know I never ask!) Exciting times ahead. Cathal

    Late date ?

Could be the permanent replacement for Alf McCarthy....Lillian signed off again last night as it was her final show.

My bets are Will Leahy will move to the Weekend on One slot (he has covered this several times in the past year) and therefore not be on 2FM anymore

I was actually just wondering if Lillian was the long-term replacement for Alf on LD or what the story was. I'd say that's where Cathal Murray is headed so.

If it turns out to be Cathal, most of the late date listenership will never have heard of him, he may as well be an outsider!.
Lorcan Murray would be a better choice.

Ah sure, no harm in a new face (or voice in this case)! I like Cathal, and think he'll do well if he does take over weekday Late Date. He plays some pretty decent stuff.

Cathal was presenting the Weekend on One this morning as he said himself for one more weekend. Odd that his replacement, if RTE have decided on one, wasn't available this weekend.

Bit of a joke really when he said his goodbyes last Sunday morning

Indeed. But then it's RTE we're talking about.

If the replacement was unavailable, could they not have got someone else apart from Cathal Murray to present the show this morning!? There are loads of people available!

I presume there was some sort of mix up about his leaving date. He made a point of joking that it was DEFINITELY his last morning show this time.

Has Cathal Murray left Radio 1 entirely ? As well as having left weekend on one, he is no longer the stand in for Ronan Collins.

I miss Murray from Weekend on One, he had a lovely voice for that time of the morning. His replacement is very.. playlist/mechanical. Just the bare minimum. Oh well.

I caught him last night on Late Date. I've been a long time away from listening to Late Date but I caught it with Fiachra on Sunday night and I enjoyed it so tuned in again last night. Great presenter and his choice of music was spot on. I really enjoyed the show.

Just back from a brilliant Open Mic to find Cathal doing a live show!!

    Life is good.

Hopefully this is the future. I hate the bloody repeats of Duffy et al that I normally have to endure.

Edit: It's possibly pre-recorded, but it's great to hear proper music during the dead hours.
I wonder what happened to the usual suspects getting their 'repeat fees'?

Assume you're referring to Late Date? Cathal has been the permanent weeknight presenter there for a few months now, well Sunday to Thursday. The rehash of the daytime shows goes out after 2 a.m. I think the normal schedule was changed and Late Date was extended during the Olympics, but I haven't listened in a while so not sure exactly what time it was on until.

    No! No! No!

His show covered the whole 'repeat bit' from 2am-5.30.

Unfortunately, Shay has just started his own show and said the last couple of hours were a technical mistake :-( :-(

Anytime you hear wish you were here by Pink Floyd and Luke Kelly is a good thing. Hope they reconsider the repeat section overnight.

    They probably won't :-(
The closest thing I can normally find during those hours is Manx Radio but they are a bit unpredictable.

Last week it was on until 3am while covering the Olympics but it reverted to 2am this week
