I have some friends, a couple one of them is a traveller. their Christening their baby soon and are looking for somewhere to hold a party afterwards...pub, restaurant or anywhere at this stage! As soon as people realise that one of them is a traveller the venue is all of a sudden booked up which I think is really unfair. they are a really nice family and never an ounce of trouble out of them, but as is the usual in Ireland, people won't ever give them a chance. So if anyone on here knows of any venues who would welcome them and maybe 15 others in the tipperary area it would be great!

Just book a venue. Don't mention your travellers and then turn up on the day. Can't say it's full up of you have already booked and arrive.

Had thought of that... But imagine the embarrassment of them being turned away when they arrive on the day :-/

Not living in Ireland I don't know if this is a silly question or not but how would the owner of an establishment know that one or several members of a group of 15 were travelers ?

Their accent usually is a dead giveaway and some you'd just know by looking at them. Unfortunately in ireland, theres a lot of discrimination against them and all it would take is one of the locals to kick up and the bar staff would ask them to leave. Sad really..

Sadly a small but determined percentage of Travellers have spoilt it for all the others.
Leisure industry operators cant be expected to distinguish between the law abiding majority and the criminals, so the easiest thing is to decline the business rather then risk having their premises demolished and the goodwill of their regulars evaporate.

This is untrue as 60 percent of ALL traveller males have a criminal record which is in fact a majority, a simple google search can provide many official sources and statistics

The fact that someone has a criminal record does not make him dangerous. In fact, sometimes, it can be a symptom (rather than a counter-example) of prejudice.
