Adult ADHD - Help and Advice

    Hi

TL;DR - i'm a 24 year old Adult with ADHD. I was diagnosed when i was about 5 years old. I got some help/therapy for a few years and i took Ritalin. My Parents had an on-going battle with me, apparently (i dont remember much) i was a difficult child to get involved with therapy etc etc.

When i was 12 or so i went cold-turkey and stopped getting help and stopped with the Ritalin altogether (rebellious teenage years).

I have not got help since, i struggled through Secondary School and made two attempts at an undergrad but failed each time.

I am in a good career (IT) with a decent job, simply due to the fact that i have good technical ability and a hands on approach.

My ADHD is starting to affect me both professional and in my personal life (relationships etc)

Anyone have experience with this? it seems that Adults with ADHD dont have much support available to them.. not as far as i can see anyway..

I also have a lot of Anxiety ( i would describe it as pretty severe )

where should i start? - Therapy?.. Medication?

    cheers in advance

    Hi op,
I don't have personal experience with ADHD but I have needed help in the past for depression.
I think a good gp is your best avenue for help, support and guidance. Well done for recognising you need help.
    Good luck with everything.

    Have you contacted http://www.hadd.ie/?

Anyway, this forum is for discussing psychology, counselling, and psychotherapy issues; not personal issues.

There's a different forum for that, so I'm moving the thread.

(Mutter, mutter - does ANYBODY ever read a forum charter?) JC

I'm sorry but medical advice or any advice pertaining to medication is not permitted here so I'm closing the thread. Sorry.
