Airbus A340-600 - what's it like to fly on?

I'll be flying on a Virgin A340-600 next week from LHR to JFK in economy class and cannot wait to have a good look at this big fella of an aircraft.

Has anyone on here flown on one before and what was it like? Apparently it's fairly quiet and, if you are far down the back, can see the fuselage flex a little!

Ive flown it to China and back in economy. It's definitely a quieter cabin than the 330 but the lengthier fuselage means that the rear cabin probably a little less smooth than the over wing.

Excellent, I'll see if I can try and get a seat somewhere nearer the wing so for stability. I can always take a stroll down the back to feel it move!

Do they have the "downstairs" toilets on the Virgin machines or was that just on the Lufthansa A340-6s?

I flew on a Virgin A346 back in November, and while I loved the fact that I flew on one, I wouldn't be in a rush to do it again.

I posted about it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97714502&postcount=25

Interesting viewpoint....especially considering Faceman liked it.

I hope it's comfy for the sake of the better half :). I can put up with it being uncomfortable for the sake of experiencing the aircraft!!!

Never the 600, I had a bit of a nightmare flying on a 343 a few years back, I hope to fly on the A340-600 Lufthansa to Tehran in a few years !

lets see if they still have that bird do the flight.

I've flown on Virgin's A346 to Tokyo and back. Nothing to write home about, just the same as any other economy flight. We (as a family of 4) sat at the back and it was comfortable and quiet enough.

I've also flown on Lufthansa's A346 (ORD to MUC) - it was the same. I was nearer the front. Nothing special. LH had loads of toilets "downstairs" which was great, better than hanging around in the aisles.

The main benefit of 330/340 on long haul to me is 2-4-2 seating which allows our family to still have window seats while seating near each other. Becomes important if you have two kids who fight over everything!

Flown on Etihad A346 from SYD to Abu Dhabi a few years ago. Not a bad aircraft and quieter than I thought. As someone mentioned it can be a bit less smooth at the back than over the wing.

Much prefer over 777 with the 2-4-2 seating as opposed to the 3-4-3 with Boeing. A340-500 from Melbourne was the same just shorter aircraft.

    HZ-SKY is a -600, HZ-SKY1 is a -200

SKY1 is available for charter, the -600 is operated for a private owner.
