    Hi all.

    I currently have the bog standard bathroom.

    Toilet, sink and bath with painted walls. I want to change this in the next few weeks and install a new toilet, cistern , sink and take out the bath and have a shower installed.Im unsure of the order of work,

    Im presuming that the plumber will come along and remove the toilet, sink, cistern and bath. Then run a pipe from the attic to the new shower location.THen install the shower tray. THen the electrician will come along and run the cables needed to the new shower location. Then the tiler will come and tile the bathroom and then the plumber comes back to install the toilet, sink, cistern shower doors etc?

    Would those steps be correct?
    If i know the right steps I can have the different tradesmen booked in advance and have the job finished as quickly as possible.

    Thank You.

    There are companies who will do the whole job for you from start to finish. the problem with using different trades is who to blame if there's a problem.
    But your assessment is about right except don't forget to get the walls Tanked in the shower area and make sure the tiler uses classi seal or something similar if needed around the shower.

    If you are going to go down the separate companies for the different aspects of the job, make sure to leave a couple of days between each of them in case of delays.
    Better off going with someone who can arrange everything for you from start to finish.

    Thanks for the feedback lads.

    I have contacted 2 local companies. Bathrooms4u want 4K for the job and another local company want €3800. Im on a bit of a budget so will have to use different tradesmen. I purchased the wall tiles, floor tiles, mortor, antibacterial grout, sink, cistern, toilet, shower door and shower tray for €1157 from RightPriceTiles who are currently charging the same prices they did in 1999. I will pick a shower soon and expect to pay around the €200 mark. Its a big price difference.

    Luckily the plumber and tiler live in the same village as me and have done work for me before. Both have great reputations.

    There is also a registered electrician I know from work. He also has a great reputation so I should be fine (I hope)
    Again thanks for the feedback.

    Just a quick update.

    We finally got around to having the bathroom completely finished today.

    It was started last week, The plumber arrived on TUesday morning and started working, He was finished on around midday on THursday. The tiler arrived Fri Morn and worked all day. He came back again on the Sun morning as he was helping out at a charity run on the Saturday.

    The plumber came back yesterday and installed everything. Il post pics upsoon.

    Price Breakdown
    Plumber and Electrician =€840
    Tiler =€300
    TIles,shower door,shower tray,toilet,cistern,sink,taps,pedestal, mortor, trims, grout etc
    =€1157
    Shower =€200
    Marine Plywood =€35

    SO altogether is cost €2532. This is a huge saving considering the cheapest quote I got from a company that will do all the work for you was €3800 and would have used a cheaper toilet and sink.

    That is a great savings but are you comparing like with like? For example looking at the tradesmen costs it doesn't look like you would have a vat receipt for their labour. Please correct me if I'm wrong here Did the electrictrican leave a cert for the work carried out? Were all the tradesmen insured?
    The big advantage of doing it the way you have besides the price is that you had an individual tradesman for each job. A lot of companies offering to do all the work quite often don't use separate plumber, tiller etc

    Did you tank the walls and floor in the shower area?
