    Hi all

I have been offered a lucrative position in the UK (Engineering) and just figuring out the practicalities of my girlfriend teaching in the UK. She qualified in 2011 and has been teaching since and has her Dip complete, currently on a temporary contract. Would she enter the UK system on the lowest payscale or would anyone be able to shed some further light on the situation? Thank you

That would depend on what type of school she would be teaching in. As you may be aware, there has been a gradual increase in the establishment of "Academies" in the UK, and each Academy has different ownership and would therefore offer different salaries. Some Academies will also offer allowances and bonuses for performance, results and location (London Commuter Belt) etc.

As for State schools, I would assume she'd begin at the first payscale that denotes that she is dipped and fully qualified, but she may or may not be entitled to incremental credit for her teaching in Ireland (i.e. put on a scale reflecting her teaching experience in years). That would be for her to enquire with the DfE. There are also different pay scales for holding posts of responsibility and leadership.
