    Ok folks,

I have a fully loaded kia sorento 2.5 diesel automatic,2012. I do mostly motorway driving, anyway i have left it in for a service and was given as a replacement a 5.0 V10 TDI 4MOTION 4d Auto (LWB) (4 Seat) vw phaeton,

Its absolutely gorgeous and well fully loaded its 2005, The lad in the garage said he would do a deal with me, I give him 2000k and the car is mine,

Now having driven it for the last week it seems to be better on diesel than the kia ?? And its an absoloutly dream to drive.

what you think, sorento or phaeton

NOTE ,I live in Europe so the tax and insurance is minimal change in price.

the phaeto hasn't got the badge prestige of the KIA. It's only a big passat.

The prestige doesn't bother me really, I am all into luxury and comfort, but i haven't a clue about cars so i await the experts opinions here,My immediate impulse was to grap it, but that's just me .

Phaeton is a fabulous motor, engineered to exacting standards. Forget the badge snobbery, it really is good. However, the only thing that would stop me would be the potential repair bills. A v10 tdi engine is a specialist bit of kit to work on, and many parts would be highly priced, although some I'm sure are straight off the A8. But what a car

The Phaeton is already over ten years old. If you go to trade it in in a couple of years time, you'll get very little for it. Whereas, your Kia will still be only be 6 years old.

    I'd stick with the Kia.

nah I'm only messing. the phaeton is a class above the kia, but be prepared for massively priced parts

Run of the mill newish car versus special older car?
    It's impossible to answer.
Firstly you need to try to assess the cost of each car to see if the price is in the right ballpark. After that, you need to consider whether you can afford to run the pheaton. Bills will be frightening if you stick with dealer. On a car like that you might have to go to dealer for some issues.
One thing is for sure, the pheaton is a special car.

I have a lot of experience of the V10 in a Touareg, really nice but two turbos and they do give a lot of trouble. And if it uses the same 6 speed gearbox with out the transfer case they give trouble too

A friend of mine had that engine in the Pheaton and got rid because of fuel consumption... and he was refueling in Gibraltar.
