Alternative Wedding Band

    Hey,

Sorry if this is addressed on another thread already. So we're on the lookout for a wedding band. My & my OH have reasonably different taste. Hers slightly more mainstream, mine more eclectic.

We'd like to find a band who will play a good amount of the usual wedding fare: Beatles/Tina Turner/Daft Punk but also maybe have the option to play something a little more alternative. We're thinking something like Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Stone Roses, New order etc., so nothing too 'out there'.

We'd love if the band had a brass section of some kind too, as we both really love motown and New Orleans Jazz as well so would be great if some of that could be thrown in as well.

I know all of the above might be a tall order, but if anyone had some suggestions we'd be all ears.

    Thanks,

    D.

I can't give you anything as useful as a name, but I will say if you're looking to be particular about your band, book very very early. I started looking last September just after engagement for a band for this July, and my first few picks were already taken, which was quite disappointing. I really underestimated how soon bands book out(well it was my first time ;) ).A mix of annoying and stressful when people finally reply to you to say not available so just get the burn on for that good and early.

The band we booked is called the mix tape.. We picked them because they have alternative stuff like the strokes, green day, violent femmes, wheatus, the clash, the cure etc and as far as I know they've added a brass section in the last few weeks, could be worth a look?

I don't think they have a brass section but while researching these are one of the better alternative bands I've come across - http://www.alternativeweddingband.ie/

www.beatclub.ie would cover a lot of your bases. Then get the dj to play the stuff your band can't/won't.

Just putting it out there... just because you may have a eclectic taste in music, that doesn't mean many of your guests will.

I know it's "your wedding", but at the end of the day, you want everyone to enjoy themselves.

I'm big into my music, but I'd no trouble in getting a band that does cheese and mainstream wedding hits well... I wanted to see all my aunts / uncles / family and friends up enjoying themselves.

That said, you can seen in some of your own tastes later in the night (DJ or residents bar) when the oldies have put their feet up after dancing the night away! :D

We had the converse allstars play at our wedding. Good friend and brother in law since booked them they were so good! Check out their play list on the website. Saw till death do is party at a showcase and they played quite a good alternative set list.

Yeah we had beat club and they were brilliant, have a brass section too. The DJ they supplied played great tunes and had been in touch beforehand about our tastes.
When we went to see them in a pub every song they played was on my iPod so I was sold.
