Leg warmers, how high do you go...

I was just wondering...as one does...

I kind of thought, and it seems to be a school of thought, that they should just be above the grippers on a pair of shorts.

But recent research has led me to believe that a lot of them cover most of the thigh? Maybe it's brand based? I'm not talking about all the way up to the crotch but about one/two inches below.

    See examples in links.

    ^ That's pretty high!

So high do you or yours go?

Mine are ridiculous , right to top of my thigh. Sportful brand, damn things are long, size small.

I'd love to hear what brand the low, just to short gripper ones are. The lower they are the less of a chance of the dreaded sausage thigh.
Female pros get it too, so unfair!

Mine start out upper thigh, but usually end up lower thigh by the end of a spin. It depends on the quality/age of the grippers on my shorts. If they're bad, a mid spin adjustment is required :(

Also to add worn over shorts or under shorts?

Mine go well up the thigh. I've two different pairs, both DHB. The BWarm ones go quite high  and the grippers sometime irritate the thigh. This concerned me but Mrs. crosstownk says it's a regular enough thing with hold up tights so that alleviated my concern.

My older DHB leg warmers are showing their age - the slide down under my shorts sometimes so I only use them for shorter spins.

    And finally, UNDER!

Min go well up too but after a KM or two they usually slide back down and rest just below the grippers on the shorts and if I'm out of the saddle a lot they can slip below the shorts and expose skin at which point I either pull them up or have to stop and adjust them.

It also depends on the shorts, some pairs I have are just that little bit looser and allow the leg warmers to slide down more whereas other tighter shorts seem to keep them in place more.

Same with my DHB Roubaix leg warmers but the DHB B-Warm don't because they have grippers on both the inside and outside which probably helps.

I have, on occasion, raced and trained with legwarmers over shorts. And I liked it. In fact I actually preferred it :P

I can't even look at myself in the mirror while wearing them...the shorts must go on before I dare look.

Fair few of the pros were seen with them on the outside of the shorts in milan san remo a couple of years ago - the one with the absolutely brutal rain. Thinking being they were just a bit easier and quicker to remove.
