Embryo transplanting?

I'm looking into the option of going down the flushing and embryo transfer route as a way to establish pedigree holistein freisan herd.

I milk 70 mainly freisan cows at the moment but I'm looking at ways to improve my herds performance. I will be hopefully purchasing some top class pedigree Holstein freisans in the near future maybe just one to start with. I will then flush this cow and transfer the eggs to my maiden hiefers.

I'm just wondering does anyone have any experience with this. Any tips would be great... Costs etc.

If you are just looking to milk them don't bother. It's only the girls bred for the show ring that flushed.

Use AI, join discussion group. That's how to improve your herd. Don't flush anything from cows except milk. Nothing wrong with holstein as everyone knows. As long as your cows are performing and you know how much it's costing you.
Join the society alright if you like but don't get drawn into 'elite' club.

Have you looked into the herd grade up system? If you have good records your herd could potentially be made pedigree already through the IHFA. When you say a top class Holstein Frisian, what have you in mind? Something with good milk and solids, something with good type, something with a fancy pedigree? Flushing can be an effective way to get more progeny out of a specific cow, but you can be lucky or unlucky (heifers that repeat with eggs in them, all have bulls etc.) The only thing is, the amount of follicles a cow produces on her ovary is highly repeatable. So if she flushes well once she will have a better chance of flushing well again.

Look at your icbf report. Where are you and where do you want to get to? Kgs of milk solids and calving interval are the kpi's. You will not find many in the hf society talking about them though. Follow posts by mahoneyj and stanfit to get pointers to improve performance.
