Looking for peoples advice on fertiliser spreaders..which do people prefer?..the way tail type like the vicon or the twin disk like the amazone or bogbelle?..bogbelle is a pure pain to clean properly!!..vicons seem alot easer also seem to have other uses like spreading grass seeds and clover

Have a 600kg bogbelle here since 2005 and thinking of changing for 1 ton machine as i have only have 1 tractor so nothing to load with.(i uasuly get a neibours tractor to load) Also the local co op has the popular fertilisers in bulk which is about 20 minutes on the tractor away from the farm...i only spread 10-14 tons so im leaning towards a 2nd hand 1 ton reconditioned vicon..any thought?

Buy small bags, 12tonne a year is,nt much and if your old spreader is working away fine then I,d stick with it rather than paying 3k upwards on a new one or spend that money on a hoist for the big bags if your not keen on lifting the small ones,20mins going to the co-op is a bit of a waste of your time. We,v a vicon grand but nothing special the cheaper wagtail might just be as good

My spreader needs a new shut off ram and blades for the disc...mad money for such small bits!...that was that was one of the reason i was think of upgrading.

We,l I,v a vicon and its about 6years old I,v put bearings in it twice and a new wishbone last year so considering how dear they are to buy new compared to a abbey wagtail or the like there not great value.

Weld a bracket onto a shed that has a H iron..no need for a second tractor or bigger spreader

...and buy a chain hoist 1000kg rated in Lidl, only €40.
I plan to buy the bags on the jeep trailer and drive in under the hoist then. No more small bags here, bad back,

You'd have a big bag emptied with a bucket very fast if you've them on a few pallets high I've done it last yr I'd say not more than ten mins per bag to do it
