Pierce it for the minute, we find the peach teats much better on them, just a matter of buying a new teat.
Changed all teats on regular blue jvc feeder last year to peach teats but bought the blue jfc individual compartment feeders this year complete with peach teats - amazing difference in speed at which some calf drink, at least now we know that the slow drinkers are getting the correct amount too.

unless you stay with the slow drinker he will even get less then on the other feeders as he will be pushed off by the greedy calves when theirs is gone, plus the compartment feeders are very hard to clean properly .never again.

I've a 10teat feeder here, usually only have 8 or 9 calves to a pen, but as things happen I have 10 in one at the second, that's too many in my opinion, having one spare teat makes a huge difference to how quick calves can all get sucking, and your not pricking around moving calves to make sure they all have a teat.

    DONT PIERCE THE TEAT

a faulty teat can cause a calf to bloat & you will not save him

neighbour lost 4 calves before finding out it was a faulty teat

We do the same here, still end up trying to keep the faster drinkers from trying to bully in on the slow drinkers, have to say I love feeding time with the calves...

teats need the trianguler shape vertical on the inside of the feeder check against the other teats

the black need to be correct side up - a twist might sort it.

Black with peach inside much better for me.

Have a six teat compartment feeder here and have it spotless is about 15 secs after each feed. Remove the teats twice a week for a good clean so that the milk residue doesn't build up

I use the bottle opener side of a normal penknife to push in the teat back into the opening and when all the collar is back just push in the teat.

I always use a 6 teat feeder with 5 calves max and black teats without any problems. I give them 3 litres each feed twice a day. I heard an advisor say that 2 litres a feed is too little as its only maintainence.

How do you clean the inside of the teats.
I rinse out and wash the feeders after every use with hot water and washing up liquid, draw the water through the teats and rinse again. Every other night I make up a solution of Opticide draw the water through the teats and leave to sit overnight.
I know now that some milk residue remains in the tips of the teats thanks to actions the rats the other night

I use the single blue buckets with the big white teats. Work fine before moving the calves onto the 5 teat feeders. If the calves are over week old they just wreck the white teats by chewing them ??? Any solution ??

Take the feeders away after feeding so the don't have the opportunity to chew on them.

Like you run water through them. Mine screw out of the holder so give them a good scrub there too
