    "Can anyone help?"

I'm kinda curious. If you were a serial rereg, who has been banned two hundred times before, why would you use the same lines every time, like a broken record?

    What's the point?

Or are they trying to be annoying in order to get a reaction?

Maybe they think that somebody cares?

Trying to get attention and a reaction by annoying the Admin.

I honestly thought I was reading a legit prison thread. I was like 'holy crap, is Pat Mustard banned? Wait, how are non mods replying? Wtf'

I need to go back to bed.

    Probably.

The Admins must be bored to tears of them rather than annoyed!

Ah sure, it is the innocence of them, the poor innocents think that feigning innocence might somehow make the admin believe they are innocents even though admins have other avenues open to see inside us and know if we are innocent or guilty as charged; D

Meh. We just ban them from Prison and wait for the next one. Takes up less of our time than it does of his.

I guess that in their mind, there is some kind of mutually admired and respected cat-and-mouse game going on.

In reality, if you are waking up on a Saturday morning to create a new email account just so you can re-register for what might literally be the 500th time, you are a sad sad person with some genuine problems.

    It's an addiction

Boards is a disease that is spreading, and once you have it its very hard to break it, even if your barred you just keep coming back.

Since you decide if/when posts are displayed in prison, why allow serial rereg posts to be visible at all then?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,152 ✭✭✭✭KERSPLAT!

Some I assume just still want to be part of a/the discussion so they continue to rereg. Others are a pain in the hole who rereg to troll. There's definitely a difference.

One in particular seems like a sound lad that, while I ban on sight, I do have the odd PM exchange with and he's always very friendly.

Biggest disappointment ever, is when a newly registered user appears, is on the wind up/troll almost constantly for a week or two, next thing is they're banned.

And the don't start a prison thread.......

Leaving me in perpetual curiosity as to who the feck they were a rereg of.

A prison thread usually follows this pattern

Banned guy:"Hi, i appear to be banned. I just joined the site and i havent done anything wrong. Can you please unban me? Thanks:)"

Admin:"You're a serial re-reg who has been banned 20 times before for racism and abuse"

Banned guy: "Well **** you then you nerd. Boards is **** anyway. I dont even care ya bastard".

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,351 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

There are two options when sitebanning someone - with or without Prison access. When banning posters like this I always make sure I ban them without Prison access, but some other admins may either choose not to do that or accidentally select the other option when they intended not to give Prison access.

I wish the thanks button worked in Prison. There are some genuinely hilarious moments. Given the attnetion seeking nature of the eejits that end up there you'd think it would also make them try harder.

    Me too!

I'm sat on a train and a bunch of 60 something Corkonians are playing Shakin Stevens. I'm all discombobulated. When I read Pat's post I thought my move in to an alternate universe was complete.

He was perma banned long before my time as far as I know. Reregging to evade a ban is against the charter, so he gets banned. Its not for me to decide whether he should or shouldn't get another chance. Personally I probably would but I don't know his history in full so my opinion means little.

Some of the desperation in the prison forum would make you cringe though. If you need boards in your life that much the ban is probably doing you a favour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,554 ✭✭✭Pat Mustard

There is some clown who starts off his Prison threads by pretending to be confused, saying 'can't seem to post', finishing by claiming that there is a 'glitch' and that he has been advised to reregister.

Once might be original but the same routine every single time?

    Goes like this:

Clown: Can't seem to post. Can anyone help?
    Admin: Yawn.
    Clown: What? Can you explain?
Admin: This is so boring. Just go away.
Clown: I have no idea what you are talking about. Seriously.
Admin: Okay, I know that I shouldn't do this but here goes nothing. You were previously sitebanned for trolling on another account. You are not allowed to reregister after a ban.
Clown: I don't quite understand. What did I do wrong?
Admin: (Sigh) Okay, what other accounts have you had previously?
Clown: I still don't get it. I only have this account.
Admin: No, what other accounts did you have before this account?
Clown: None. What do you mean?
Admin: We both know that isn't true.
Clown: Oh well, there were other accounts but I encountered a glitch and was advised to reregister.
Admin: Ah here, just go away, will you?
Clown: See you on the next account.
    Admin: (Yawn)

    Rinse and repeat x 200.

My personal annoyance is the prison threads of "Hi, I only posted a survey? I didn't see any other surveys, mine was the only one, what difference is one little survey going to make? It's only my survey, it should be allowed."

    No point, I will agree.

I dont understand why they do it either.

Response from mods about bans is poor to non existent. I gave up a long time ago. Just rereg and move on. Its quick, painless, and avoids the frustration of non-responsive mods. Yes, you end up with a scatter of usernames through boards.ie, but sure what of it ?

I would have a lot more interest in seeing the posts the admins refused to approve. You just know there are some good ones where the banned posters made fools of them.
