I collect and restore vintage radios, and used to relish blasting the cobwebs out of them with 252 on a moderately high volume.

These days you'd probably call it a soak test!

The sound quality delivered by Trim at full power (it's throttled well back now), wasn't bad at all (as evidenced by the first part of that clip), and when I'm driving around the UK, Radio 1 is still perfectly fine for the most part, although, unusually for modern cars, the AM receiver buried somewhere in the dash of mine and hooked to a big touchscreen, is excellent.

It might be nostalgia, playlist on heavy rotation with the pitch up a bit notwithstanding, but I do miss 252. :/

Charlie Wolf took me to work, many a morning.

Unfortunately it seems unusual to find a modern car radio that actually covers LW.

car radios in Volkswagens seem not to have done so for 20 years!
In more recent years radios in Toyotas etc don't do LW.
All a negative for the continuation of LW broadcasts

BTW Algeria's 252 has been off the air for some days, so its currently possible to hear RTE on 252 without the serious interference at night in southern parts of Ireland as well as further afield.

    This is a new Audi.

Wife drives a 2018 Fiat 500X, I must check the setup in that actually, I only ever streamed through it from the phone.

Biggest problem of course is the background RFI, in the good old days, there were no homeplugs, very little digital hash etc.

I'm sure most of us remember the ignition "noise" flashing across the TV screen. That was as bad as it got back then.

A colleague of mine serviced battery sets in his childhood, he is old enough to remember those days! He still talks about the clarity of AM, on the coast, with no electrical infrastructure within at least 5 miles.
