    Hi all,

I am just wondering if there is anywhere in Ireland where you can buy any of the Raspberry Pi models off the shelf?

Farnell will deliver next day for free, easier than buying off the shelf if the next day is a weekday.

There is the Makeshop on Lincon Place off Nassau Street that sells all sorts of interesting stuff including Raspberry Pi and Arduinio.

Kinda... Farnell will push you towards CPC if you are a private individual rather than a company. Unless something has changed recently.

Personal (as opposed to business) customers are still being directed to CPC.

I definitely got it direct from Farnell, they mustn't be that strict on it. Anyway, I presume the OP got it by now!

Compared to Radionics, who take your order online and send you one component a day for the next six months.... even though you ring ahead and ask them to wait until they have them all in stock and then ship ONE package.:mad:

I dont think that's fair. It must be a huge cost to run those shops, particularly the one on Jervis street where they even have to supply security to keep the scumbag kids out of the place. I dont like paying the bigger prices, but they do have much higher overheads than a warehouse website.

Is there a model 4 coming out soon?

Not that I heard ..... but would expect to see further development on the memory and NIC side.

One of the nicest cases I have seen for the Pi

If I ever get another I will seriously consider this case.

    That's one theory.

Most of what Maplin sell are overpriced boxes rather than specialised components. Dealz have similar overheads and where the product ranges overlap they are a fraction of the cost. The big difference is Dealz price stuff to sell.

Maplin was started to undercut the type of shop they have become :(

    Anyway

Dealz do the micro HDMI cables.
Get an OTG adaptor on the interweb for usb hub , get a few of them they're handy for phones too. (plugging a mouse and keyboard into someone's phone is good for a laugh)
If you want cheap micro SD cards check out CEX or ask your friend for ones out of old mobile phones

I just got my first pi, the model 3 ,

Not sure what to do with it yet, bit of an impulse buy , very impressed everything worked out of box. It actually functions quite well as a basic desktop. even consuming media.

    some thoughts
    • I got a 8Gb Sd card with it which is way to small even for just programs.
    • all the peripherals and accessorizes add up its not really a 30 dollar computer is it ?
    • It Runs very hot when you start doing stuff. A case like that above is a well worth it as it acts as a big passive cooler. I just the basic plastic case with it so I fashioned a makeshift heatsink ripped from a dead old power supply with a really good design of thin vanes and stuck it on with thermal paste got good results with it,Some great videos on heating tests at this channel on youtube. The one dollar heatsink you can buy at the pie store ain't up to much

I use the R-Pi to display on TV the media I watch ...... live TV, films, stored video etc etc.

    I run LibreElec on them.

Kodi has plugins for all that I need.

An older Pi is set up with Squeezeplug and acts as a music server.
