    Operation Gold Eagle
    Helmand Province Afghanistan

In Helmand, the Afghan government only had a tenuous hold outside the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah. NATO presence in the province was sparse. Through the month of February, a new ISAF unit, the Helmand Task Force, was deployed in order to counter the Taliban. The core of the fighting force was drawn from the 16th Air Assault Brigade, and in particular from the 3rd battalion, of the Parachute Regiment.

The initial mission of the Helmand Task Force was to carry out reconstruction and hearts and minds projects in the relatively safe area known as "the triangle", centered around Lashkar Gah and Gereshk. However, the intensification of Taliban attacks led to a dramatic change in this strategy.

    March 2009.
The town of Sangin, is an important trading center of southern Afghanistan, and is one of the larger opium markets in the region. It is an important objective both for the Taliban and the coalition.

A biannual tribal meeting of Afghan elders and civil leaders in the town of Sangin is scheduled for Saturday March 19th. A representative from ISAF has been granted permission to address the assembly prior to the talks, although the presence of non Afghan nationals is prohibited whilst the meeting takes place.

ISAF forces supported by Afghan National Army units will provide a security detail on the town of Sangin for the duration of the meeting. ISAF will also be tasked with the secondary objective of picking up some known Taliban affiliates for questioning after the meeting takes place.

Taliban militant activity in the region has been increasingly active in the previous months. It is unsure at this moment how the scheduled meeting will effect the current state of conflict.

    What to expect:
This is a twelve hour Military Simulation event encompassing both day and night operations.
Players will be expected to assume the realistic roles of both ISAF and Taliban forces.
Along with combat operations ISAF should expect hearts and minds missions with civilians along with patrols and checkpoints as well as combat operations.
Taliban forces should expect some non combat missions including smuggling and intelligence gathering.

Players will have to operate to a schedule and take orders from command.
Players who attend this event will be expected to be self sufficient and be able to stay in the field for the duration of the event.

    Uniform requirements.
