Looks like a bit of a dodgy site according to trust pilot. https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.fnac.com

Pity too as it looks awesome!

I didn't click that link, but Fnac is like Argos in France. Well known and excellent. I use them a lot.

    Yep, nothing wrong from Fnac.

Bought plenty from them over the years - both in their stores and online (got the infamous cheap HP Touchpad from them years ago too!).

Fair enough I hope you're right!! Don't suppose they have an English version of the site? Also would the instructions etc be in French?

I use Google Translate. Either Chrome or Firefox addon. I don't think the site is available in English.
The instructions I'd imagine are multilingual. If not, Meccano has their instructions online in PDF. I had to get them for a car my Nephew had got and the instructions went missing.

    EDIT.
I read some of those reviews.
I'd imagine that's mostly people who had a complaint and it wasn't sorted quickly enough for them. Also the few I skimmed over didn't seem to have a follow up, after the issue was sorted. Very rarely you see someone going to those sites to praise a company. But they are very good. Items can take 5 - 10 days to arrive. I've ordered something on the 2nd March and waiting for it at the minute.

    Me too.... :D

    Ah, it should.
I've not ordered this, as much as I would love to, but I don't have €190 at the minute :(
I'm expecting my order from the 2nd to arrive here on Monday, I'll post whenever it does arrive.

The G15KS in this thread is 4ft tall so you would need plently room to store it. The G15 is the 2ft version. Santa got the G15 for my kids and it took a good 2hrs to put it together so expect the G15KS to take ~4-5 hrs.

Ordered, and who would have known I needed one of these...

They seem to be asking me for my passport now.. Is that normal procedure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

They are also asking me for a passport ?
Very odd as I have NEVER supplied info like this for a credit card purchase...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,381 ✭✭✭✭Allyall

I've heard of that before, only happened to me with with misco :(

Maybe random check because there are a few ~€200 Robots with a potentially higher value?
It was big a few years ago, amazon, apple and a few other retailers all asked for passport.
    It's nuts.
In any case, I wouldn't give it to them. Just tell them the Credit Card should be verification enough.
    Or
I just ran a quick search - someone on another forum said you can blank out all the info except your name and signature.

So it could look something like this - http://www.sumopaint.com/images/temp/xzbqdttropcepdoh.png
I got that from the searching "Irish Passport" it's not mine :)

Got this for my wifey at Christmas.
If you think you're going to put this together in 4-5 hours- you're very mistaken- 2 days of 5-6 hours a day, is more probable. Some of the connections are almost impossible- I had to buy long nosed pliars on St. Stephen's Day- it was impossible otherwise. Also- the instructions are not clear- its far too easy to put things on back-to-front (even obvious things like the motors for the arms etc). If you were to ignore the instructions altogether- and go through the videos on youtube instead (which are comprehensive)- you'll find it a lot easier to follow. My little wifey- who is an electronic engineer in a former existence- loved putting this together- however, you need at very least 2 days.......... (note- she is looking over my shoulder insisting that the instructions were patently wrong- which they were........)

    Komplett asked for mine recently.
    Its not unheard of.
I keep a jpeg of mine handy for whenever I need (usually a couple of times a year).

UPDATE, after much soul searching, about 10 min,,, I decided under no circumstances were they getting the level of information that were asking for considering it was basically a toy..

    So I told them so...
Considering they had my address, name, phone number credit card details, they also wanted my Passport number, date of birth, Date of issue, etc.. I told them it was out of the question...
The credit company advised not to supply same..

Then, the item shipped... its tracking as on the way to me..... so much for that madness.

I have used Komplett, amazon, ebay, and many smaller companies from Europe, china and the states for over 10 years.. never have I been asked for passport information..

Looks like mine shipped as well. Looks like it's too complex for the person I bought it for.

Great information regarding youtube, you have probably saved a few of us from a nightmare.. Can I also borrow your wife ? that just sounds wrong on so many levels haha..

I'd love to get one of these, but a recent kinder egg fiasco makes me think that it might not work out well.

Bought one of these and think it's too advanced for the person I bought it for. Will sell on at 191 euro if anyone missed this offer and wants it.

Most of the bags with the parts were open and stuff was loose. I really hope it is all there as it will seriously suck to have it half built only to discover stuff is missing. :(

Sounds like it might of been a return, hope you are lucky and whomever got it first decided it was too hard for them..
