    Boarders,

I want to take an overnight bus from Punta del Este (or if push comes to shove Montevideo) in Uruguay up to Porto Alegre in Brazil.

According to the website Buscaoinbus there's on connection by TTL (10.5 hr journey on a 24 seat sleeper bus):

    http://www.buscaonibus.com.br/en/timetable/punta-del-este/porto-alegre?dt=29/05/2016

    Price & times: http://www.ttl.com.br/produtos-e-servicos/precos-horarios/

    Questions:
    1. Are they safe to travel on? :( (crime? bags stored underneath etc..)
    2. Can you book these on-line? Can't see a way.
    3. If have to book by phone, do you think giving a credit card over the phone is safe?
    4. It's a Brazilian company.... the Uruguyan price for PdE to PA is €84, yet the Brazilian price (same journey, same direction) is ~€59. Can I book the cheaper?? :D

By the way no hablo any spanish or portugese.... so any help or pointers appreciated.

    Cheers

    Helo there,

I'm a new member here, but I'll try help you.
At first, Porto Alegre is not in Argentina, is a Brazil city, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state.

    Now, your questions:
    1. Are they safe to travel on? - Well, take care of (pay attention) your bag and your stuff is always necessary. But don't be worried with that, it's not common happen something like that.
    2. Can you book these on-line? Can't see a way. - Unfortunatelly, the company TTL does not sale online, and probable neither by phone, so the better way is going to the Bus Station, in Punta, and buy at the TTL's office.
    4. It's a Brazilian company.... the Uruguyan price for PdE to PA is €84, yet the Brazilian price (same journey, same direction) is ~€59. Can I book the cheaper?? - you need to buy at TTL office, probable will be the same price as the Brazilian ones.

    Have a great trip!

Ask about what type of ticket you are buying, try and get "cama" ot at very least semi cam....cama is like a good business class seat on a plane, pretty large and folds back almost level. You should be able to sleep, semi cam is not too bad either.

I prefer upstairs because the toilet will generally be downstairs, but it does move about a bit more.

Are they safe? I would say yes, put your luggage in the hold when you get on and don't bring too much on with you, but yes. You will be fine.

Do you want to go to Arg or are you to Porto Alegre?

Another option to Argentina is Buque Bus or other ferry service which you can take from Punta or Montevideo direct to BA. From there you can take any number of buses around the country, to Brasil, Paraguay and beyond.

Go to a travel agent in Uruguay and book it with them. You should find an English speaking agent.

You are 100% correct. It was a typo. I meant to say Brazil!
I am going Argentina -> Uruguay -> Brazil. Just so many facts in my brain to get mixed up.

I just corrected the title and original post in case others see it.

The photos of the TTL bus appears to be single-decker.

We're going Argentina -> Uruguay -> Brazil direction.

That's a double decker, bottom floor sinks down a bit. You'll see that most of the buses are all the same shape.
