Bus Eireann - A Rant...

Ok, I'm sitting here on the bus to Enfield and the bus left on time. There was no noticeable traffic, yet amazingly we arrived into Enfield 15 minutes late!

I'm usually a train user (which itself has pretty poor timing), but every single time I get the bus it is excessively late. What is the problem with punctuality in this country?

Our roads are remarkably better than 20 years ago, we have better infrastructure and yet our time tabling and punctuality are no better than yesteryear! If anything it's worse!

    Rant over!

Bus Eireann are never on time. If a journey takes longer than advised in the timetable they should update the godamn timetable.

Doubtful, but even if it were it doesn't explain all the other times..

    Just buy a car.

Not being smart. Semi-states were created to make life better for the citizens of this republic. You rant about public transport. When is the last time you've had a rant about the ESB?
Yeah but a car is just a cost sink when you work in the city.

I was on a Bus Eireann coach today for the first time in around seven or eight years, and I was shocked at how clean and comfortable it was. It was one of those ridiculously long double-decker coaches, with two staircases, tables, power sockets, etc. It was fast too. I was impressed.

Many of the timetables are works of fiction! Some inspector drove the route at 3am some quiet dry morning and set that time in the timetable as being attainable all day. Check out the Galway bus where several departures from Busaras and Galway are delayed because the bus has not arrived yet or the bus arrived late and the driver has to take his full break by law before doing the return leg of the journey.

Some journeys like the Waterford timetable have extra time added and are only a bit late during peak hours but other more popular services like Dublin to Limerick, Cork, Galway Wexford and even Belfast have unattainable timetables.

It is false advertising but claiming it takes less time will only lose customers when they are stressing out over missing flights or meetings etc and especially when competitors are able to get it right!

Christmas 2010 (Aka the big freeze) and I'm getting the bus from derry to Dublin. It's christmas eve and due to the bad weather I leave earlier than planned to ensure I make the bus. Bus Eireann and ulsterbus have an arrangement that they meet in Monaghan and swap passenger loads.

Except in the space of time BE were supposed to send two busses they decided only to send the later one which left me sat outside the closed Monaghan depot for three hours......

Long and short of it between that and no taxis when I arrived into bus aras at 1am I then had to walk home with three heavy bags on my back and in the bad weather I got home at three am christmas morning. A journey which should've taken five hours max took twelve.

But please, keep going on about that fifteen mins.....
