Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shoes for weightlifting

If you're lifting weights, then don't get sambas for the gym.

Chuck Taylors or their cheap equivalent from Penneys, Dunnes etc would have a flat sole and be better for the gym.

Oly shoes have much better stability for squatting in than the others and the heel lift may help you.

    But sambas? No.

I read various threads on reddit etc that seem to rate them though. It's not just a random pair of shoes I found.

I didn't say you did but that thread OP was for gym shoes that look good with shorts/chinos so footwear that was good for lifting wasn't a primary concern.

I have Sambas and I wouldn't lift in them. You can and I see people lifting in all sorts of runners but if you want to get something just for the gym, you're looking at having a properly flat sole shoe/runner for deadlifting and squatting or flat shoes for deadlifting and Oly shoes for squatting. Sambas don't have a non-compressible sole as was said in that link.

Just to be clear, is the answer you want "go buy sambas"?

Or do you want an honest and truthful answer to the Q you asked? Cos Alf's spot on the money.

I actually came across a really interesting piece by Eric Cressey re shoes for lifting the other day - might be worth a read for the OP:
