help finding an app

Hi all I accidently stumbled on a link on youtube that allowed me to play youtube on my smart tv from my phone. Android and Apple it,s a small little box icon with what looks like 3 wifi signals on the lower left corner, on youtube vids. This thing only works with my smart JVC TV and only youtube as I have seen so far.

My question is this: Is there an app out there that will allow me to stream whatever I have in my phone or sd card just the same? without having to resort to chrome cast??? as this youtube icon thingy seems to act perfectly with anything other then my phone and the tv.

Theres loads of apps that will do what i think you want to do,i use i media share,free on google play.also,theres an extension you can get on google chrome in your laptop called videostream that allows you to stream your movies from your laptop to your tv.i media share is for your phone or tablet
