    Hi lads,

First post so go easy on me please !

Looking to buy a diesel saloon 2009 or newer, budget about €9,000. Reliability and bit of comfort important.

I saw a 2010 Volvo S40 2.0D for £4,995 up North in Charles Hurst. 60k miles on clock. Not allowed yet to post a link. Mileage seems low for a diesel

Works out a bit over €8,000 incl. VRT.

Any thoughts ? I checked previous posts here and it seems that 2.0D is better option than a 1.6D. Are Charles Hurst regarded as reliable to deal with ?

    Thanks.

They have a dealers down in Dublin so perhaps the warranty could transfer.

A friend of mine drives one of these, very nice motor ;) reliable, confortable, safe, easy on insurance... ticks a lot of boxes ;)

The 2.0 is indeed the best choice compared with the 1.6 unless you do serious mileage in town, in which case the 1.6 Drive version will make more sense. But if it's a motorway cruiser you're after, the 2.0 is the stuff.

As Atlantic Dawn mentionned that dealer has an outlet in Dublin, might be worth it to give them a ring and see what they can do for you, they might even be able to take care of registration and vrt for you.

If you're doing serious mileage in town then neither of the diesel engines are suitable.

What i meant was relatively high mileage in town on top of open road ;) not "if you drive solely in town", OP mentions the need of a diesel, which I assumed was to let people know that the choice between petrol and diesel has already been made...

The 1.6 Drive has start and stop and things like gearing tweaks that makes it quite suitable for city driving.

But yes, diesel makes sense only if you mostly drive on open roads.
