Done one a while ago for an elderly neighbour. went to the council and they gave us the bags and gear for disposal
Just got disposable overalls and real good quality dust masks.

Not sure on how much the council charged as we done work foc and he paid the council

mind if I ask which council, rang limerick office but she said straight out no they don't take it.
emailed a guy to get a quote for it but its only 14 sheets, probably 8 feet long max

How do you know if material is Asbestos because a company was taking down a chicken shed for a neighbour and I got him to look at some slates as well as some sheets . I thought he was chancing his arm in saying some of it was asbestos . Can you get it tested anywhere and is there anywhere you can bring it if it is wrapped properly .

I think aspestos is gone since the 70s so it could well be fiber cement sheets which look similar.
You could always stack it and keep it might come in handy for roofing another shed someday if it not aspestos.

I was told it was asbestos as its a place I bought, trying to attach a pic

Yeah looks like it; any 1950s roof is always it.

    http://www.nwcpo.ie/permitsearch.aspx

Lads serving limerick area who can handle/haul etc asbestos. More than you might think. That cement asbestos is fairly safe mask/ and keep it wet seems be the professional removal!

https://www.agridirect.ie/product/spraying-kit and no bother keeping it wet at the moment! But no DIY allowed!

As long as you're not sawing or cutting it with a power was or angle grinder, it's safe to work at with a quality mask. Get one that you'd spray with, not those things like a paper cup. A 3m with the twist on filters would be ideal.

It's asbestos alright. It would have a very high % of asbestos.

A few company that we deal with at work.

    safewayenvironmental

    Rialta

    Asbestaway Ireland Ltd

Companies usually require it to be doubled wrapped in 1000 gauge plastic.

Safeway Environment were the cheapest for a recent job carried out at work.

It is grey asbestos, which is harmful. But not in anyway as bad as brown or blue asbestos. Grey asbestos sheeting only has about 5-15% asbestos in it and since it is set in cement, the risk is pretty low.

Was clearing a site recently n there was a small shed maybe 14' x 8' that had asbestos roof on it. E600 Euro to get rid, some crowd collected n apparently send to Germany.
I'd imagine most lads would dig a hole in the corner n bury it!

Shed put up here in the early 90s was covered with aspestos (grant aided).

My father has friends who were electricians. They were cutting grey asbestos with a saw daily in the 1950s/1960s for backings on fuse board (since it is a really good fire retardants). They are all perfectly healthy and would have mesothelioma by now. He knows people who worked and lived on ships in the 1970s for a few years and they are all death from mesothelioma as the pipes were lagged in brown/blue asbestos.

All asbestos is bad. But brown/blue is far worse. Most people who die from asbestos-related cancers are smokers too.

Fiber cement sheets replaced aspestos in the 70s or early 80s I'm almost sure of that
The sheets look the very same though and I'm not sure how to tell the difference other than testing.
Aspestos is only dangerous if it's broken up and you inhale the dust it then stays loged in your lungs and can lead to lung cancer.

We found asbestos items in buildings in London up until the total ban in 1986 and in some cases even after that as builders didnt believe in throwing out materials they had lying about and because it was such a good product.

Could well be possible I'd suppose any stock in builder merchants yards wasn't going to be thrown away.
I wouldn't be too worried about it on a roof it only when it's time to take down the shed it becomes a problem.
It lasts a lot longer than the tin sheeting that they are selling nowadays.

Very true about it lasting have sheds with 60 year old roofs that are perfect. Even with extra disposal cost still prob cheaper than a tin roof by a long way over the shed lifetime! Saw a 2 year old slatted shed roof down by me with the paint peeling away wonder how long will take to rust.

We have used Asbestaway and Rialta and a few other at work for disposal on asbestos pipes and sheeting.

Only really harmful if becomes airbourne by cutting or breaking up of sheets. Hence recommended that water is sprayed if working on it to keep dust down.

Good quality masks and plastic coveralls, gloves booths etc to take it down. It needs to be stored on pallets and double wrapped in plastic. The disposal companies will tell you how many sheets per pallet & sizes etc. They generally charge per tn so it will be a charge per pallet.

Give the disposal companies a call and they will quote for disposal.

most crowds quoting around 470 + VAT collected once I take it down, looks like the sprayer suit and mask will come in handy after all.

    Thanks all for the replies
