    Heya ,

As the title suggests , I have currently got a TOYOTA COROLLA 2000 GS VVT-I the funny shaped one as i call it , i have a stereo that i had in another car and was wondering if it is much hassle to put my new stereo into this corolla , there is a space down under the heater dials for it to go but ive heard that it can also be installed up higher in the the top dash section , sorry I really dont know anything about cars so any advice would be great and thanks

The simplest way to do it is to take out the cassette deck and replace it with a regular head unit. It's nit the neatest way of doing it, but it's easier.

    You need a harness adaptor.
    Pretty sure it's this one.

I think you need an adaptor so the end result will look like this...

No facia adaptor required. There should be a (pretty much) DIN sized cassette deck in there at the moment. Separate to the radio at the top.

Same idea as what's in this video (he has a Toyota cd deck instead of cassette, but same principle)

Thank you all very much , I am going to see if I can slot my stereo into the space tomorrow . Also if I may ask one more thing , I noticed my back wiper is not working , any ideas on what the issue could be , a fuse maybe ?

Some head units won't fit where the old head unit is located as the heater controls fascia slightly covers the head unit and as a result the faceplate won't have enough space to fit on(on some head units).

I had this problem so I had put the head unit where the storage box was and the storage box where the original radio was located.

The heater controls fascia has to be removed. It's held on by two screws behind the heater knobs. Once these are out remove the ashtray and the plastic tip from the air recirculation control leaver.

Once that is done you can grab the fascia from the bottom, where the ashtray goes, and pry it out. Once it's out a bit you'll be able to grab it from both sides as well. Continue until it comes loose. At this stage you'll have to disconnect the connector for the demister switch.(on the UK built 5 dr liftback there will be another switch on the otherside if it has ac) once this is out of the way you can remove the fascia further.

You will then need to disconnect the cigarette lighter connectors and the light for the ashtray. You don't remove the bulb. You remove the whole plastic clip from the fascia. Once that is done the fascia should be free.

You now can move on to removing the radio. The storage box and head unit are all held together by two brackets. These brackets are held on by four screws, one in each corner. A Philips screwdriver will remove them. Once these are out put your hand behind the head unit and lift it up slightly and push it out. Uclip the connections and aerial.

Once it's out you'll have to do remove the four bolts holding the radio and the four screws holding the storage box to release the units from one and other.

The bolts from the original radio won't fit an aftermarket radio.

There is 4 little indentations on both metal brackets which hold the head unit and storage box together. These indentations fit into holes on the aftermarket radio chassis and on the storage box. If you can put the new radio in the originals location these indentations will hold the head unit in place without the need for screws as the four screws holding the storage box will hold everything tightly together.

However if you put the head unit below and the storage box above where the original head unit was you'll have to buy screws(if not supplied with new head unit) to bolt in the radio. This is because some of the holes on the brackets don't line up with the storage box when it's put on top. As a result it won't hold the hold the brackets tightly enough against the head unit for the metal indentations to hold it in place.

Also if your car still has the original Toyota radio you'll have to buy a harness adapter to connect the new radio.

You might pick one up cheaper online.

    I hope this helps. :)

Thanks for that it was very helpful I managed to take the front off and removed the stereo, the Storage space under the stereo was missing a cover so I got a stock fashia from top part and it all worked good, managed to change the heating lights bulbs also so thank you.

If I could press you for one more question?

My back wiper is not working, any idea what the issue could be, maybe a fuse or would it be anything to do with a wiper motor as I've heard mentioned?

Search for blown fuse in an engine bay or behind that small storage thing near your right knee. They're clearly marked which one's for what. If they're all fine it's most likely wiper motor's fcuked. Less likely - switch stalk or relay or wiring.
