Buyer Beware

A friend asked me to have a look at a 07 Skoda diesel. He was a nice distance from the car so the seller agreed to meet him halfway(I know bad idea) and I went with him. Car was supposed to have a replacement engine with 90k on it fitted by a skoda dealer( I thought it strange that a main dealer would fit a s/h unit) anyway the guy lands with his dad. Dad drives a newish skoda.
Car is in ****e coolant bottle full of oil, panel damage, bad clutch, knock coming from engine, logbook in another' mans name( we were told it was in their name)

We politely say no thanks, the dad tells us he bought it for his son who is gone to Australia. He bought with the engine gone, he then produces paperwork with no company heading but typed showing parts of 1900 but no labour. He offers us the car for 1500 less than the asking we say no. While my buddy was on the test drive I admire the dad's octavia which has no insurance or tax disc, I ask him how long he has it, he says a year. I note the tax holder is from the same dealer he claims put the engine in!

That night I google the dealer in question and who do I see? The dad we met is their service manager ffs!
I roll around the room laughing at the audacity of the man.

I do realise my friend and I didn't follow all the guidelines when buying a car but still

Contact the owner of the garage and let them know what their employee is up to.

The employee is a brother of the garage owner as far as I can see!

It shouldn't be too difficult to find from the info provided in the OP?

But you've already made this thread. Finish what you started imo. This con-man deserves to be exposed.

It's an 07 diesel Skoda. That really doesn't narrow it down and returns 86 hits on done deal alone. I'm not sure why we have a warning thread that provides so little info that nobody can avoid the car. Bit of a waste really.

It is not a warning thread. It is a self-admiration thread how I've managed to avoid being screwed.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the extent of the actual fraud so far limited to the whole Australia story?

I mean, they offered a car, it was a private sale, the dogs on the street know you check them out fully anyway, it's not like they were using the Skoda brand to sell it, and indeed Skoda might not have any particular issue with them selling they're own stuff away as long as it's not represented that Skoda itself is giving any representation or warranty.
