Most expensive train journey per km?

The pricing on IE is very frustrating at times. No more so that when comparing prices inside the Short Hop Zone to those immediately outside it.

But I'm curious as to what the single most expensive train journey per km is? Does anyone know?

Maynooth to Kilcock is €1.00 per km, whereas the oft-complained about Dublin to Cork is a bargain at €0.246c per Km. Surely the former must be a contender?

Tara to Pearse is 1.73 on leap, and much less than a km

The minimum fare effect. Makes some journeys such as the one you mentioned very expensive, but not a lot of people would do it. They'd just walk. Like getting the Luas from Busarus to Connolly.

Short journeys outside Dublin are ludicrously expensive. I occasionally have add a fare from Longford to Edgeworthstown onto my pass that covers me from Edgeworthstown. That is 5.95 for about 14km. Clonsilla to GCD is more than a kilometre further and involves travelling through an area of far higher demand yet costs just 3.15.

Kilcock is one of the worst examples of a seriously unfair structure. There is no logical reason why Kilcock shouldn't be in the short hop zone - at least one other line has stations far further from Connolly in Short Hop.

Legacy fares that never changed as Dublins surburban belt changed. Wherever Dublin Bus bus went, you were in the short hop zone. If it was Bus Eireann, you were bumped into medium hop and beyond. For example the IE price difference between Hazlehatch and Sallins is staggering.

Didn't DB pull the 66 out of Kilcock years ago?

These days its all zones but the basics remain the same. Here's some typical rail examples. KMs by rail.

Balbriggan - Connolly. Distance 35km. Single cash fare - 5.90

    Maynooth - Connolly. Distance - 26km. Single cash fare - 4.60

    Greystones - Connolly. Distance - nearly 27km. Single cash fare - 5.90

    Sallins - Heuston. Distance - 29kms. Single cash fare - 8.70

    Kilcock - Connolly. Distance - 32km. Single cash fare - 8.10

On the basis of that comparison, Sallins is getting shafted because 13 km up the line is Hazlehatch and its only 3.25 for a cash single.
