Penalty Points while renewing insurance

01-03-2016 1:12pm#1Quick question(s) - my insurance is up tomorrow and I haven't renewed yet and I got 3 penalty points (76 in a 60 zone - the road into Adare at 11pm on last Tuesday night... grrrrrr) in the post last night.
These are my first ones so forgive what might be stupid questions - Does it affect your premium? Do they go straight onto your licence when you pay or have you to let the insurance company know or what's the story?
Given it's around renewal time I don't want the points to stretch into a 4th year of insurance (few days after renewal, if you get me) but don't want it to affect the premium I'm being offered now either.
Also they spelled my surname wrong on the form, don't suppose that gets me off?
