Insurance for a stray

Hoping some of you lovely people can help me out. Myself and my girlfriend took in a stray lab about 3 years ago! We found her severely under weight, pregnant and very sick! Thankfully she made a full recovery and is a massive part of our family now.
I was wondering about the possibility of getting her insured, I don't know how possible this is though.
Obviously we have no paperwork for her to prove age etc, although the vet reckons she is 5 or 6.
From looking only a lot of insurance companies don't take on new policies of animals over 5.
Has anyone faced this issue before or have any advice?

I have 6 pets currently, aged between 18months and 15 years, no insurance, I just pop a few quid in the credit union every month, pay the vet off as I go along for vaccs and routine stuff. My vet will let you pay off bills too, so that's a help.
All but 2 of mine are over the age to get insurance, and one is age Unknown.

Well you don't need any paperwork for your dog to insure it, both of mine are age unknown, just an educated guess by the rescues/vets, the insurance company don't ask you to prove your dog's age so I would say she's 5 and go along with that, also I thought it was 8 that they wouldn't insure, not 5?

Is it not more expensive after 8 years old?

Ive 2 cats, age unknown on both, but we think they are two and seven. I got quotes for both though.
