Hi guys. I need to drive backwards just for a few miles. Does anybody know where in Waterford I will be able to do this? Can I legally drive backwards on the road. Or does it have to be private land?

Be careful you don't cook your engine if reversing that far as the radiator won't get any cooling airflow. Have the car towed.

You can reverse anywhere. But if you need to do it for a very long distance maybe some industrial estate?

I can't have the car towed. I need to reverse it for few miles to bring the miles down before going back to Hertz. I'll try up the IDA. There are speed bumps up there but it's prob just as well lol.

Presume you're joking? If not, this plan will not work.

Does reversing lower the mileage on modern cars which store mileage digitally?

That's what my boyfriends cousin said. Otherwise he said I'll get charged excess mileage. Don't know what's meant to be funny about it.

Why would you get charged excess mileage? Did you rent a car from Hertz and agree to only do a certain amount of miles?

Sounds like something you'd hear on Father Ted

So you want to drive backwards to lower the mileage, then go forwards to Hertz and increase the mileage! :)

Do you actually think that reversing a car will rewind the mileage?

April 1st is a while off yet!

Milage still goes up in reverse, sorry but they're winding you up

No, more like a wind down

Have you factored in the millage you'll add driving to the location to "lower the mileage" ;)

Put the car on axle stands, select reverse and watch the clock go back.

    Nope. A wind down.

Better do a few bonus backwards miles to be sure. Don't make the milage negative though cause they'll smell a rat I'd say!

Get some mileage "correction" service to fix it.

This is a tricky one alright. Maybe if you drive in reverse at 88mph you could turn back time

I think/hope OP has now understood how mileage on a car works. We'll stop here.
