I am wondering who does motor pacing here in Dublin. Can anyone give me some names or contact details? Many thanks.

There is a derny at Sundrive, not sure how you would hire a driver and time though, try contacting sundrive cycling club. If you mean on the road, I don't think anyone, pretty sure it would invalidate motor insurance on open roads as well as be considered dangerous.

When I was a kid, I used to use the no.28 bus along the Malahide road! ;)

I have seen people motor pacing behind a scooter on quiet roads.

The 27b was much faster, as the driver would try to get away.a

Wimps! The 42 does the full Malahide road, not just a section of it!

The 31 goes along that road now, handy for a bit of motor pacing, but is it considered Strava cheating?

This would be the remit of the Track Commission, rather than the club. Plus, Philip Deignan was the only one I heard of them allowing on to do it. I could be wrong.

You'd want to be able to 100% trust whoever you have pacing you.

I had no idea to be honest, just the only place I had seen it but I imagine they don't take Joe Soap of the street and let him do it for an hour.

Yeah, accreditation would be the bare minimum. Plus, AFAIK it has to be the derny as insurance will not cover anything else on the track. You'd want to a fair bit of experience first too.

Few lads I ride with have gone out with Tosh. Apparently he's very good.

I suppose my only question would be would Toshs insurance cover him in an accident. Since its advertised, if a rider ploughed into the back of him, while typically at fault, the fact that he is getting paid for it.

Sorry to be Mr. Health and Safety

Not sure about it having to be a derny. Some of the World Cup events in Colombia and Mexico used standard motorbikes and I would have thought that anything considered "appropriate" would do, provided the driver was properly trained/accredited.

On the topic of pacing on the road, I have little doubt it would be considered "dangerous driving" if the Gardaí encountered it. I cannot imagine any insurance company would provide cover if someone is doing that, particularly when charging for the "service".

Nope. The insurance will only cover dernys on Sundrive. As per the conversation that was had at the time of replacing the older derny. No other options were viable due to this. If it's not true then members of track comission were telling fibs.

There is a Mayo Man known to many racers who has a rolling
bar attachment for his ballhitch. I presume there must be others out there somewhere.
