New Estate - Meter boxes but no meters

    Hi I have just moved into a new estate. They have the meter boxes in place the same that were installed in my previous place but when I looked inside to take a reading there was no meter. I am now paying unmetered rates for this and it is about 3 x the amount I was paying in the original house.
    I would like to know is it common that new builds are getting no meters installed and would it be possible to request a meter to be installed.

    Thanks

    Hi macronot,

    Thanks for contacting us and apologies for the delay in response to your query. This was due to technical difficulties.

    Regarding your query, due to building regulations set out in 2007, all new buildings must be fitted with a boundary box. However, this does not mean that a meter will be automatically installed.

    Once you are scheduled to receive a meter from Irish Water, you receive notification two weeks prior to the installation and again three days before the meter is due to be installed.

    If you would like us to look into this matter further for you, could you please provide the following details by PM:

    - Name;
    - Address; and
    - Contact number.

    Kind regards,
    Mairead
