Health Expense Claim - Dentist Now Closed Down

    Hi,

I am facing a strange issue at the moment and am looking for some advice!

I got an awful lot of work done on my teeth last year and wanted to claim back some tax from the State for the work done via the Health Expenses.

However, I tried to contact the dentistry that carried out the work and the place has since been shut down. The company was called Dental Magic.

I rang Revenue and they are telling me that I must get the required forms filled out by the dentist. With the place now gone, what should I do? Can anyone offer any advice? All I have is bank statements to prove I went to a dentist, but was told they will not suffice because not all work is covered under the tax relief.

    Thanks,

    Kindest Regards,
    Dave

At least you got your work completed?? Although I would not be too confident in dentistry by clinics such as in the link....

So there is no legislation at all to prevent somebody setting up as a dentist here? Is dentist not a protected term in this country?

There is but these guys are coming in and treating people before they can be closed down.

Over the last couple of years there have been a number of high profile Hungarians advertising/setting up clinics/treating patients but two of the biggest have run into serious problems. Tibor dental closed after multiple High Court cases taken by patients and last month Csaba Borbath (dental implant-Hungary) was struck off the dental register after being found guilty of doing un-necessary treatments and over treating patients ( I wonder what Michael O'Reilly, his Irish agent has to say now).

Op, the clinician has to sign the Med2 form, stamp it and insert their PRSI number on it. Without those details the form is useless. I doubt there is any way of getting it signed now as the guy is long gone.

Agreed with the above. unfortunately op you are unlikely to be able to claim for these expenses.

This is a more and more common issue these days, and I have a number of other examples apart from the ones mentioned on this thread.

    Caveat emptor
