Car Insurance no claims

Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this.

I have 8 years no claims. If I was to sell my car and be a named driver on my wifes car for say 1 or 2 years do i loose my NCB, if not, do I gain extra years for when I'm insured on her car.

I weighed up the price of a new car, tax, insurance and service costs.

Its cheaper for me to hire a car from a rental company then own my one and pay it off.

Just looking into how feasable it actually is to do it my way

The motors forum might be a better place to get answers. They know the ins and outs these type of questions!

I looked there, I couldnt see a place for insurance or rental though. I figured consumer issue might be next best thing

If I remember correctly you lose your full NCB it after 2 years of not being the main insurer (does not matter for what reason); you do not get to add any additional years as a named driver and it does not count against the 2 years that will lose you the NCB bonus. After 2 years you'll start over on zero again (a common problem for people who've emigrated and are now coming back).

You lose your NCB after 2 years. My husband and I swap the insurance over and back every year as insured driver and named driver so we both keep our NCB.

There's no sub forum for insurance, just create a new thread in Motors

You need to keep a policy in your own name otherwise your NCB will expire after 2 years.

Interested on this too - I'll be leaving the country for a year soon; if I don't insure for 1 year am I back to square one or (as it seems from reading above) I'll be alright once I'm back within 2 years?

You'll be ok, once you take out a policy within 2 years of it lapsing.
