    Hi All,

P0420 on the avensis. It passed the NCT emissions test. All values were very similar to the last 4 NCT's. Am I right in thinking that this is just a faulty sensor?

How old is code? Clear it and see if you get it again.
But yeah, if you passed emission at least car seems to be ok generally.

I have it a few months now. Every time I clear it comes back within a day.
I have the Torque app and I get this when I do diagnostics which makes me think the sensor is wrong

What year is your Avensis? Does it have a cable throttle body or electric motor? If it has a cable throttle there was a software update to change the logic to detecting p0420, but as that's only A16bit ecu it can't be reprogrammed, so changing ecu with new type is only way of fixing this. But as its passing emissions, I wouldnt be too worried about it.

2003 it is a cable. To be honest, I wouldn't go to the bother of changing the ECU. If it was just a sensor fair enough but that would be a bit too much work.

I ll just leave it as is for now.
