    Hi Guys,

What do you reckon the best way of doing this is in the mornings

Green Line to Stephens Green + walk to Abbey Street and Red to The Point and shuttle bus to Eastpoint

    OR

Green Line to Stephens Green + Walk to Tara Street + DART to Clontard and shuttle bus to Eastpoint.

Which one tends to be quicker, would I be correct in saying there won't be much in it?

Any benefit to using Dublin Bikes for part of the journey (Stephens Green to The Point)

To be honest there is not much in it I'd say, the DART is every 15 minutes and the LUAS every 10 mins.

When I went from Sandyford a year ago to The Point a few times on morning peak I found that often I'd be waiting 7-8 minutes at Abbey Street for a LUAS.

Dublin Bikes might shave a few minutes off but not much.

What time do you need to be at work at?

It was a few years ago and only for a couple of months but I found the most reliable was to get a bus to Annesley bridge (getting off across from the fire station) and walk up East wall road. There are so many buses going in that direction from Abbey St that you tend not to have to wait long for the connection / feeder bus etc...

I think a straightforward route would be to get off the Luas at Charlemont. There is a Dublin Bikes stand beside the stop. Then an off road cycle path all the way down the canal. Cut across in front of the Bord Gais Theatre and across the Samuel Beckett bridge then down to the point. Catch the shuttle from behind the point. Cuts out having to go through the city centre.

Edited: Actually I think there's a bus that goes all the way out there. Maybe the 14. I think it goes from Dundrum luas station to Annesley bridge. Only thing is it goes through Rathmines and can tend to get stuck in traffic for ages around there.

Got to Balally at 6.16 and just missed a LUAS so had to wait 9 minutes till 6.25 for next one, got to Stephens Green at 6.41 and to Abbey Street about 6.55, where I also just missed a LUAS and had to wait 8 minutes and got oin the office about 7.25.

Leave 5 minutes later tomorrow since I guess that tram is going to be about 6.25 every day.

Be interested if the other options people feel will be quicker?

Only other alternative other than those above, would be LUAS to Harcourt, 15a from Camden Street to Custom House Quay and walk to Shuttle Bus stop.

There is a 15a that leaves the terminus at 06:25 so that should get to Camden Street in about 20 minutes.

I doubt anything will be much quicker than an hour being honest.

given that you are willing to use Dublin Bikes for some of the trip would you consider cycling all the way. Its a fairly short trip.

    Don't have a bike, if I did, I would!

You will pick up a perfectly good 2nd hand one on the Cycling Adverts forum on here for about €200. Only about 8 weeks bus and Luas fares..

On the Luas, do I touch off at St Stephens Green and on again at Abbey Street or touch off only at the Point

Touch in and out at each stop - you will be charged however for a trip from Balally to the Point.

I'd get the Luas to Stephens Green and then the 14 to Annesley Bridge. Then walk to East Pt Business Park from there. I think the closest 14 stop to Stephens Green, is at St Great Georges St/Camden St. The 14 does go from Dundrum, but it goes around half the word before it gets anywhere near town. Try that for a couple of weeks. Then try the Luas to Stephens Green/Luas from Abbey St to the Point/shuttle bus option for another 2 weeks. Then try the and then the Luas/Dart to Clontarf/Shuttle bus option. Give all three a go and then decide.

Given that the first 14 is at 06:30 from Dundrum it may be too late given the times quoted by the OP above.

Replace it with the 15 from Camden Street in the post above, having got off the LUAS at Harcourt. It departs the terminus every 10 minutes from 06:00.

I'd check the RTPI for stop 7577 while still on the tram to make sure it's worthwhile getting off.

Starting a job in Eastpoint soon.

Can anyone confirm the stops/location for the free shuttle bus pick up/drop off points?

The 3 Arena would be the easiest spot for me to get to. Does a shuttle bus pick up people outside the 3 Arena each morning and drop them into the centre of the park?

I plan to cycle each day but will probably use Dublin bus and then this free shuttle bus for the first few days until I get find my feet.

The way I used to do it for almost a year in the past, which I found was the fastest any cheapest by far (without owning a bike at the time) was

    - LUAS from Dundrum to Charlemont
    - Dublin Bikes from Charlemont to 3 Arena Dublin Bikes stand
    - Walk to the bus stop.

It's almost a fully straight line, mostly downhill, all the way from Charlemont to 3 Arena, with cycle paths almost the full way and not that much interaction with traffic and only a one zone luas fare as well.

Shuttle bus stop is on the opposite side of 3Arena to the Luas stop.

I wont be getting the Luas, so is the shuttle bus stop along the quay in front of the 3 Arena facing the East Link toll bridge?

Also is the bus shuttle bus generally full by the time it gets to this pick up point outside the 3 Arena?

Mostly double deckers on that route, and it's only one stop, The Point and then EastPoint, nowhere else.

Edit: See lxflyer's post below for location.

Dud info - check the link above - it has changed - the stop is in front of The Point now on North Wall Quay.

Great. Thanks all for the prompt responses.

So double decker buses and the only stop on the routes are outside the Point and then onto East Point via the Bond road entrance.
