Car mistaken identity

Went for the Nct today and it failed only something stupid so just a visual check, but on leaving to get my car what are the odds that 2 mk4 black golfs are right beside each other. To be honest just noticed the first one and looking at the driver mirror theirs all expanding foam in it, thinking they did damage but no proof so hopped in the car noticed lip balm and an iPhone charger and I'm going this ain't my stuff.

Got out and saw my car to the right, I'm guessing I'm the only for this to happen too but that car wasn't locked so I could have taken what I wanted mine was at least locked by the tester I got.

Has anybody ever done something similar?

security is a bit lax in nct centres to be fair. I don't think there have been any thefts of cars but back in the day that's leave the keys in the car. now they call your name and whoever comes to the counter gets the keys. they have never asked me any verification questions when I presented myself at the counter for collection. they should be locking the cars at the very least.

I've always been asked for my name and to confirm the address on the logbook whenever I'm collecting the keys after the test that's in fonthill

You don't get asked your address when they call you in?

First rule of going NCT is have nothing in your car except what it came from the factory with.

Depends, if the testers check you in, they'll obviously recognise you after the test but some places have receptionists so the testers haven't a clue who owns the car they are testing so they need to ask for some form of ownership.

The guy who gives you your keys isn't usually the guy who took your keys... I think colms point is that random chancer without any car could hang around and claim someone else's. Lotsa people in a permanent daze, could take them 20 mins to realise their car was long overdue. Depends on the centre set up I guess.

Oh, did yours have a €50 note in the ashtray as well?

    (Kidding :))

I've always been asked for my address in Northpoint 1/2 when collecting the certs.

I've sent me da up the last 2 times with my car, coz I didn't wanna get time off work.
Presumably the NCT forms have my name on them. He's never had a problem when bringing mine up anyway.

Funny for this thread to come up now. I had my NCT on Friday morning and on Saturday morning popped the boot to find a 4L can of oil I keep secured in the boot missing its cap and the oil spilled all over the boot.

No idea who took off the cap or why but it was fully closed when I had a bunch of suits in the boot the weekend before, and I hadn't opened the boot since.

I know they say to empty the boot but I was just going in for a lights re-check.
