    hi
i live in a rural location, the water pressure is low so there is a water pump that supplies decent water pressure to the house. today i noticed while in the shed where the pump is that it seems to be comming on very frequently, even though i am sure there is no water running in the house.

the pressure seems to go up and down several times a minute - i recorded a video of it - is this normal?

    here is the video:

You could check the pressure tank for air. If water comes out of air valve, suspect the bladder in tank is leaking. You could also check the air pressure in the tank. Turn off the pump and run the water for a few seconds. Ideally, it should be about 18 psi. If no pressure, you need to pump and check for leaks.

    hi joe,
thanks for yor reply, i tried turning off the pump but we have no water comming through at all then - as soon as i turn the pump off the pressure quickly drops to zero.

i will try other suggestions in the morning

    thanks alot

If the gauge drops to zero almost as soon as you switch off the pump and you are certain that there is no water running in the house, then it is also quite possible that you may have a leak between the pump and the house or the non-return valve is not closing fully.

I had to replace my pressure vessel recently. Pump was coming on every 30 seconds or so. I suspected the bladder but it was actually the vessel itself had corroded through. New pressure vessel and its sorted.
