Have an 09 Mondeo that will not start this evening, never had bother before. I went to start the car and nothing at all.

Not a sound but thing is the dipped headlights come on even though not switched on. I can't put on heads or turn off the lights, no response, also fog lights not coming on.

Checked battery and it seems fine, charging fine. Car will not start with jump leads but will start on a hill jump. Anyone any ideas?

    Starter??
Put the car in gear and get someome to give it a rock as you turn the key.
Make sure you have space in front of you in case you start and get going.
If it staarts its the starter.

When you say the battery seems fine, charging fine - how did you check?

Sounds like the battery is knackered and possibly the bcmii needs to be reset.

Try leaving the jump leads on at least 10 mins before attempting to start.

I had the battery checked with multimeter, charging fine and kept charge.
Another thing as well is the key fob won't lock or open car now either, changed battery in it and still no change.

Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (All off) and back four times within three seconds.
    Remove the ignition key.
The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds and the red warning system LED (By the clock) stays on continuously to indicate this.
During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the warning system LED.
Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.

That should work for your key fob

How do you check a battery with a multimeter ??
You checked the charge rate not the battery.

Was just the charge rate, not sure of battery then although no warnings or anything and still strong light coming in with key in ignition position

Doesnt matter with silver calcium batterys that are fitted in fords they can cause all sorts of problems and still look like they are ok.

Turns out water was leaking into the car and got into fuses underneath glove box and corroded some of the connections.
All back working again. Thanks for all suggestions and help.

Any idea where the water was getting in?

The reason I ask is that my '08 had a damp carpet on the passenger side,
I discovered this while changing the bonnet cable.

Some investigation on mine pointed to the rear screen washer pipe was leaking at a joint(it goes into the car on the left side behind the dash)

Just wondering if it was the same on yours,or water getting into it a different way?

Never seen water ingress in one of those mondeos like that its possible the windscreen was replaced.
Or maybe you could be onto something with the washer pipe either way the op needs to make sure its sorted those bcmii's are not cheap to replace.

Haven't found where its coming in yet. I had windscreen replaced twice last year, second time because it wasn't sealed properly first time so could be this again I suppose.
Will look at washer pipes as well after hearing that

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Does yours have a sunroof?,it's not unknown that the drain tubes become blocked, and let water into the footwells.

Let us know the outcome please.
