RTE Player not working

    My player not working on Samsung smart tv since last update of app on 25/01/16. The ads before the programme play fine and then error message "The service is having issues. A problem occurred when trying to play this video".

    No option to delete app. Anyone else come across this?

    It seems that the RTE Player is not available on the Samsung 2015 "J" smart models running Tizen operating system. I am not sure of that position on the older smart models ATM.

    Out of interest, what ISP are you on?

    If Virgin Media, you may have one of their former Belgian IP addresses, which it seems RTE are still treating as outside Ireland.

    Thanks Jpmarn and Karsini,

    I just found it strange because it was always working and then just stopped and I didn't change anything only update in app if prompted.

    My ISP is vodafone but has been for a year.

    Maybe I just have to use laptop :-(

    How do you update the app on a Samsung tv? I have no sound on the RTE app, sound is fine on other apps. Thanks.

    It's a dreadful app; I have a 48h6500 and it plays through to the first AD break and then just resets to the home screen so you end up watching all of the ads again. Brutal. I tried to watch something on Friday night and whilst doing that it also just kept buffering, at least that used to be ok now it's just a pure annoyance to use, I am on UPC so likely the buffering is down to them routing the rte player traffic to northern Siberia and back again, I don't care enough to start an argument on the UPC forum in light of the Netflix thread going nowhere.

    When I opened the app it just notified me that there was an update and to click on install. Hilarious considering it doesn't work now!

    I emailed rte about this last year, but would have been better writing to Santa. *hit service fron RTE, as other posters have stated you can watch the adds ( you HAVE to watch the adds) before you get the usual message. I did another update tonight but it did fcuk all good. 3 player is fine.

    My telly is 2013 but not working on it since update sometime late last year. It's a real pain as my recorder won't series record any Irish TV station, only UK ones. ( I live in Louth)

    I have given up on RTE player - it just does not work properly on the Samsung (except the repetitive adds - they work). It is absolutely dreadful.

    Have you checked that your TV has been updated to the latest firmware? Had similar issues in January and upgrading both TV and RTE Player app worked for me.
