    Most universities, NUIG included, have limited access to journal articles and it can be a massive pain in the ass when trying to find a piece of research when it is hidden behind a paywall.

    Here is a blog post that details 6 different approaches that people are taking when they find that their university does not have access to the journal they desire:

    There is a large debate surrounding access to research at the moment so even if you don't choose to use these approaches it is worth being aware of what people are doing in their quest for knowledge.

    Isnt there a newish torrent site for scientific journals, akin to the (infamous) pirate bay?
    I think some scientist got fed up of the status quo of journal publishers making a fortune while nobody else benefits whatsoever.

    The big journal publishers get paid by a scientist to publish a research paper, and then anybody who wants to access that paper also has to pay the publisher. The original scientist makes no money off their own research, and neither does the person who funds them. Its bollocks if you ask me.
    </rant>

    edit: just read your link, that pirate site for journals, sci-hub, is already mentioned.
