    Hi all,

Our ewe lambs don't seem too mad about the 18% concentrate ration they're getting. It's in cube/nut form.

Would mixing in some rolled oats help, in terms of taste (sweeter?) or form (easier to eat mixture rather than just hard cubes/nuts)

Any advice would be appreciated - thanks.

I'd say a cheap crunch would be better than oats to mix in. There'd be molasses on that which would be sweeter.I'm not sure the oats would be as palatable.

It takes a while to train ewe lambs to meal, I always use a creep feeder with the gates off until they're eating enough and then change over to troughs.
The ration probably isn't good if they're on it a while and still don't like it. if that was the case i'd bring it back to the merchant and get a different brand.....or even a different merchant

Thanks folks - this is the second different brand I've got from the same merchant so I might try a crunch now from a different merchant.

    Sound.

have a look at the ingredients

we never buy a commericial mix here always get our own made up
    in descending order
barley, soya hulls (would prefer beet pulp but not readily available or cost effective) soya bean meal, maize, rape, minerals

Thanks again for the comments above.

Just 'to close the loop', as they say: they have really taken to the crunch I got from a different merchant.

    Cheers.
