    hello, so how does this work, you live in NI and buy a car in the South and re-register it in Northern Ireland, I heard you can claim the VRT back, think you got 30 days, anyone shed some light on this please

    thanks for that, friend was thinking of taking a bmw x5 2008, commerical back so how does the vrt work on that

    I think commercials had tiny VRT of €50 or something, won't be any point.

    commercials don't count anyway. the key points are that you hace to register the car down here to claim it back and full get has to have been paid day one. ie some demo, hire cars that ha deferred vrt or disability cars that were exempt, or impoets that ha transder of residence get exemption don't count. it's very hard to find out how much get was actually paid and how

    colm, how do you mean, if person resides in NI, How can he register it here

    my brother in law also wants to buy a 05 vw toureg tdi here too as cheaper and bring it into the north where he lives

    as in you have to be the Irish-registered owner to get vrt back.
